 |  |   Renewal of Waste Reception site, Walbottle, Newburn  Client: Newcastle City Council | Value: £416,000 | Contract Date: 2003  Hellens Contracts were appointed as main contractor to construct a new waste reception centre on the site of the existing Walbottle waste reception site. The site adjoined a designated site of interest for nature conservation (SINC) which resulted in sensitive working practices being adopted relating to butterfly breeding seasons.  More specifically work involved:  Clearance of existing brick mess room, hard surfacing & boundary walls  Creation of new ramped access to the site with construction of appropriate retaining walls  Installation of new bitmac and concrete service areas and new highway crossovers  Installation of steel gantries to skips, boundary fencing and gates  General landscaping  Provision of utilities for the future construction of a new mess room and entrance Kiosk  Installation of floodlighting and provision of electrical supply to skip compactor | |
