Case Study - Waitwith Estate, Catterick Garrison
Demolition of Waitwith Estate, Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire.

client:
Defence Estates, Ministry of Defence | value: £600,000
contract date:
2002

Hellens Contracts was appointed as principal contractor in the demolition of this 1970's housing estate in Catterick Garrison.

Demolition of 194 dwellings included the grubbing up and removal of foundations and floor slabs. All roads, hardstandings and footpaths were removed along with the disconnection and removal of underground services.

An important and complex part of the demolition was the controlled removal and disposal of asbestos materials found in the dwellings.

Drainage on site was altered and removed as necessary to maintain flows.

When demolition was completed subsoil and topsoil importation was followed by grading and cultivation to allow seeding and restoration of the site to provide public open space for surrounding residential development.
