Demolition & Reclamation of the Former
Middlesbrough General Hospital site.

Barratt Newcastle | Value: £1.7million | Contract Date: 2004

The aim of this contract was to provide a development platform to enable use for a residential end use. Demolition and clearance works were undertaken on existing buildings to enable the remediation works to be undertaken.

Work items included:

Excavation of contaminated soils, underground structures and pipework

Disposal off-site of heavily contaminated soils

Onsite treatment of contaminated soils if and where practicable

Use of excavated materials deemed suitable as backfill

Placement and compaction of materials suitable for reuse
(engineered landscape fill)

Pleacement & compaction of clean imported materials

Collection and on-site treatement of encountered groundwater
for discharge to sewer

Placement of capping layer beneath adoptable roads to provide
a minimum CBR of 15%

Provide a clean cover layer of 1.0m within gardens and 0.5m within
public open spaces.
