Case Study - Leazes Park Regeneration
Restoration and refurbishment of Leazes Park, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Hellens Contracts began work to refurbish this inner city park in August 2002. The Contract spans 70 weeks and was managed in discrete phases to allow public access to be maintained throughout the duration of the works.

More specifically work involved:

Restoration of ornate gateways and cast iron boundary railings

Desilting and drainage improvements to 16,500m² lake

Construction of new footpaths and improvements to existing network

Installation of replica bandstand

Refurbishment of concrete terrace including original ballustrading, urns and statues

Substantial landscaping including creation of a new memorial garden

Conversion of depot building to education centre

Installation of replica boat hut

Demolition of some existing buildings

Installation of new park furniture, including new park lighting

Leazes Park was recently shortlisted for a North East Landmark Award 2004.
