 Reclamation of a former colliery and manufacturing site  Client: Yuill Homes | Value: £3.92million | Contract Date: 2005-06  A full site reclamation and remediation to provide a finished platform for 240 houses with roads, sewers and ductwork for services.
 Early involvement of Hellens in the project allowed the Company, using in house engineering skills and equipment, to model the site accordingly so that all materials including recycled reclaimed elements were utilised on site resulting in massive environmental benefits as well as cost benefits to the Client. The works included: In situ bio-remediation to treat hotspots of soil contamination
 Grouting of former mine workings
 Bulk earthworks and engineered filling
 Protection or diversion of existing services including high voltage underground and overhead power lines
 The protection and diversion of a strategic gas trunk main
 Construction of reinforced earth, modular block and timber crib retaining walls
 Surface water drainage and attenuation was installed at depths of up to 9 metres
 Construction of roads and sewers
 Full, safe access to a public right of way running through the centre of the site was maintained throughout the construction period. | |
