Hellens Contracts were contracted to design and construct coastal defence works at Sunderland. The works comprised the following:

Design of 1:2 batter from existing rock head
to minimise risk of 'debris fall'

Excavations and removal of spoil from step slopes

Realignment of existing adoptable path

Realignment of cliff top barrier

Installation of 'encamat' erosion control netting using steeplejacks

Cultivation and seeding works
